Green Apple Corps

My name is Katie Boyle and I am the Crew Leader for the Bronx GreenApple team. The GAC members and I had a great time practicing water quality testing with Damian and are looking forward to contributing data for the 219th site on the Bronx River.

GreenApple Corps is a service-based organization within NYC Parks and Recreation. GreenApple’s mission is to provide ecological restoration, urban forestry and environmental education to city parks and schools in all 5 boroughs. Members serve for 9 months with GreenApple Corps and hopefully use the skills they acquire in the position to attain employment in the environmental or education fields. Positions usually start in the fall and continue into the summer. For more information about GreenApple Corps or to inquire about positions, please visit http://www.nycgovparks.org/sub_about/parks_divisions/greenapple_corps/pd_greenapple_corps.html

One of the great aspects of Green Apple Corps is their commitment to support and partner on existing projects. They are Bronx River Stewards, monitoring water quality at 219th St., and they have joined the Alliance in planting and invasive species removal projects. Part of their mission is education, and they are available to visit schools and bring groups out to Parks.

Contact them to find out how they can help your school or community group use the outdoors as a classroom, or contact the Alliance to bring the river to the classroom and the classroom to the river.
